Be race-ready right out of the box with the AMP EFI’s latest Porsche Plug-and-Play Standalone Engine Management System
Gainesville, Georgia (Feb. 12, 2020) – AMP EFI, the high-performance engine and powertrain control systems brand focused on manufacturing professional, out-of-the-box solutions for today’s high-I/O, high-horsepower drag and road racing combinations, presents its Porsche 944 8791 MegaSquirt Gen2 Plug-and-Play Standalone Engine Management System.
Manufactured and supported in the USA, the new system fits 1987-’88 Porsche 944S and 1989-’91 Porsche 944S2 models. Incredibly easy to install and use, it mounts in the factory ECU location as a complete plug-and-play unit, with a pre-loaded base map to help the engine start with the first turn of the ignition key.
The new system joins AMP EFI’s lineup of road racing-ready ECUs, including offerings for specialty performance vehicles including BMW e30, BMW e36, Nissan 240sx, Toyota MR2, along with Mazda Miatas and Ford Mustangs, including the Cobra.
It offers real-time tuning and data logging with a laptop connection and supports most aftermarket wideband sensors.
“Like the owners of many other classic performance vehicles, we know Porsche 944S drivers love their cars and are always looking for ways to make them run their best,” Jerry Hoffmann of AMP EFI said. “With the Porsche 944 8791 MegaSquirt Gen2 Plug-and-Play Standalone Engine Management System, as with all of our other products, we are laser-focused on providing complete customer satisfaction, knowledgeable support, products that are easy to use, realistic price points and U.S.-made components whenever possible.”
The Porsche 944 8791 MegaSquirt Gen2 Plug-and-Play Standalone Engine Management System achieves fully tunable engine control with 16×16 fuel tables that allow high-resolution tuning, as well as 12×12 ignition tables, multiple acceleration enrichment strategies, closed-loop idle speed control and even air conditioner control. Batch fire fuel control works with stock wiring, or four separate injector outputs can be achieved with minor rewiring.
Onboard peak-and-hold drivers support both high- and low-impedance injectors without the need for an external ballast resistor. (Using peak and hold drivers requires rewiring the injectors to use four separate outputs, as the stock wiring uses one wire for all four.) The system also allows for removal of the restrictive stock airflow meter which can allow the tuner to pick up as much as 5 whp or more on its own.
Each box contains: the Porsche 944 8791 MegaSquirt Gen2 Plug and Play ECU; a 6-foot MSPNP RS232 serial tuning cable with USB adapter sold separately (if needed); tuning software and documentation USB stick; 6-foot vacuum hose for MAP signal and T-fitting; and four screws for ECU mounting.
And although there is a paid upgrade to TunerStudio, it is not needed to tune this ECU. The free version included on the USB stick can access all the features and tables of the MegaSquirtPNP. The paid version of TunerStudio adds tuning and analysis software, such as VE Analyze Live (auto tune) to tune the fuel tables based on wideband O2 feedback (requiring a wideband O2 sensor and controller, sold separately).
The Porsche 944 8791 MegaSquirt Gen2 Plug-and-Play Standalone Engine Management System does not fit the 944 base model or any 944/951 turbo models, including Turbo S.
